Charme e Alegria

This is a wonderful place to stay in the middle of the old town. The owners are very very friendly, and I even got a safe place to put my touring bicycle away ... Most important for bike travellers. I can recommend this hotel and the restaurant, too. Would stay there again.

Perfect location. Friendly staff. Sheets and towels are very clean but worn, could do with new ones, but comfortable. Place was very clean. Good for a short stay.

Pros: Super central location, in walking distance to many good places. The room is very small but clean and tidy. Easy self check-in with an electronic access card. Reasonable price. There is a restaurant downstairs, next door, belongs to them which has very good reviews too. We haven't tried so no comments. Cons: no parking place. We booked the room through Agoda and the advertisement said "parking on-site". When arriving, they do not have any space for parking, not on-site or anywhere. We told them the ad on agoda said "parking on-site", they said we can park on the street and apologied that we don't understand (!?). The street is always packed with cars so even in theory, you can park on the street (with fees), we could not find any spot even near. We had to park like 1km away from the hotel and walk back. This is not even the peak season. So, if you arrive with a car, be prepared. No free breakfast either. We don't care much about breakfast. Depends on the package you booked, for us, no free breakfast. No lift. We are relatively young so no big deals. If you stay with senior family members, they might have a hard time going upstairs. It's the typical Portuguese house, right at the entrance, a high long stiff stairs is waiting for you to climb up.

I had the pleasure of staying at Charme e Alegria in Viseu, and overall, it was a very good experience. The property lives up to its name ! It’s full of character, well located, beautiful, colorful and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The common areas were clean and well maintained, and the staff was helpful and kind throughout my stay. It’s clear that care is taken to create a relaxing and aesthetically pleasing environment for guests. Thank you for a pleasant and memorable stay ! I stayed in Room 4, and while it was generally comfortable, I did experience a small issue. The room was a bit humid and lacked proper sun exposure, which unfortunately triggered my allergies during my time there. A bit more ventilation and natural light, or even a dehumidifier, would have made a noticeable difference. This didn’t ruin my stay, but it’s something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to humidity or allergens. Despite this minor inconvenience, I would still recommend Charme e Alegria and would gladly choose it again in the future, perhaps in a different room next time to better suit my needs.
